Internship College - Finding Your Voice

Many college students are still developing who they are and what defines them as individuals. It often takes life experiences and knowledge to find your voice and to figure out what you would like to do with your life.

One way to gain experience and to figure out if you are studying a career field that you will actually enjoy once you have graduated from college, is to take an internship college. A college internship can be a great way to learn more about your career filed and how things operate in the working world. An internship college can either solidify your area of study or can cause you to change your mind and switch to another career field.

If you enjoy what you do during your college internship and enjoy the projects given to you, this can reinforce the thought that you are in the right career field. An internship college can help you find or strengthen you voice by allowing you to enhance your knowledge of your career field. This knowledge can give you the confidence needed to graduate and enter you career.

Even if you do not enjoy your internship college, your time there can still help you develop who you are as a person. The internship college can direct you in a different path and can give you an idea of something else you would like to do with your life. Either way, the college internship can be a benefit to you-you just have to focus on finding the right one that will help you develop as a person.

Definitive Guide to Michigan Technological University

Michigan Technological University (more often referred to as Michigan Tech, or simply MTU) is a public university located in Houghton, Michigan. It is situated in the northern reaches of the upper peninsula of Michigan (approximately a 10 hour drive from Detroit), so it isn't as well known as it perhaps should be. However, it ranks in the top 5 Michigan universities in almost every statistical category or ranking.

Michigan Tech was founded in 1885 as the Michigan Mining School in order to train mining engineers. Located in the Keweenaw Peninsula, which was known as "copper country" due to the extensive copper mines that littered the area, The Michigan Mining School attracted a strong group of engineering students eager to make a living in the copper mining business. It has been known as Michigan Technological University since 1964, and it still maintains about 55% of the student body as engineering students. The College of Engineering is one of the best in the nation - student enrollment in geological, environmental and mechanical engineering all rank in the top ten universities nationally and the scientific and technical communication program is one of the largest in the United States. Michigan Tech has often been described as a "poor man's MIT", which is high praise indeed.

In addition to the nationally renowned College of Engineering, the university also has The College of Sciences and Arts which includes one of the largest technical communications programs in the country, The School of Forest Resources and Environmental Science which is repeatedly recognized nationally for excellence in its research program with its PhD program being ranked fourth in the United States, the School of Business and Economics which is known for it's groundbreaking "Applied Portfolio Management Program" in which students invest $1 million in the stock market each year, and the smaller School of Technology which offers 4-year degrees in computer science and network administration.

MTU is ranked highly by every college ranking system in existence, and is considered by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching as a "high research intensive school". As a testament to the quality of work coming out of Michigan Tech, it ranks ahead of the "Big 3" Michigan schools (University of Michigan, Michigan State and Wayne State), as well as ahead of several benchmark universities such as Georgia Tech, Notre Dame and Carnegie Mellon in "invention disclosures per $10 million of research". This is a significant figure indicating the efficiency and quality of research conducted at Michigan Tech.

The campus, located across the water from Mount Ripley, is considered to be one of the safest college campuses in the United States. If you're not from the area though, be forewarned - you better like snow! They get lake-effect snow from the biggest lake of all, Lake Superior. It is not uncommon to get up to 20 feet of snow in the winter - yes, 20 feet! So if you are an aspiring engineer that likes cross country skiing, snow-shoeing, ice fishing, snowmobiling, ice skating and outdoor hockey, then you won't find a better University in the world.
