Syracuse University College of Law

Tomas A. Gonzalez has been named director of student resources at the Syracuse University College of Law. Most recently he served with the university's office of residence life as assistant director and chair of the diversity committee. He earned a bachelor's from Ithaca College, a master's from Buffalo State College and a law degree from Syracuse University.

The Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education provides the system of classification used in Utah. Utah Valley State College is seeking approval for a mission change from a Type III to a Type II.

Type I: Doctoral/Research Universities: University of Utah, Utah State University

Wide range of baccalaureate programs, generally award 50 or more doctoral degrees a year from at least 15 disciplines.

Type II: Master's Colleges and Universities: Weber State University, Southern Utah University

Offer a wide range of associate and baccalaureate programs, generally award 40 or more master's degrees a year from three or more disciplines.

Type III: Baccalaureate Colleges/Associate's Colleges: Utah Valley State College, Dixie State College of Utah

Undergraduate colleges with emphasis on associate and baccalaureate programs. Certificate and training programs designed to meet employers' needs are also emphasized.

Type IV: Comprehensive Community Colleges/Associate's Colleges: Snow College, College of Eastern Utah, Salt Lake Community College

Offer associate degrees and certificate programs.

Type V: Technical Colleges: Utah College of Applied Technology

General education courses are provided, in partnership, through other USHE institutions to high school and adult students, to meet employers' needs through education and training programs.
